Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a custom-made small cap that is placed over your tooth to cover chips, cracks, damage, and other dental issues. The customised crown resembles your natural teeth in shape, colour, and texture. It not only covers dental worries but also provides reinforcement and protection to your tooth and surrounding teeth.

At High Street Dental we provide porcelain and zirconia dental crowns with outstanding results in a single visit using CEREC technology. Instead of sending a dental impression to an external lab we have the equipment and expertise to produce crowns, inlays or onlays onsite. This saves you time and the inconvenience of wearing a temporary crown. It can all be completed in one two-hour visit, making it possible to walk out of the door the same day with your beautiful new smile.

We also use the latest in digital impression technology to help ensure that your new crown has a perfect fit. This technology is much simpler than traditional methods and is a no-mess procedure.

Why would I need a crown?

Dental crowns are recommended following root canal treatment, restoring a fractured tooth or after an old filling is replaced where there is not much of the original tooth remaining.

Your dental crown will serve several purposes:

> Strengthen an existing tooth.
> Provide structural support to surrounding teeth.
> Improve/enhance your visual appearance.
> Assist with chewing, which is important for digestion.

How do I look after my dental crown?

A crown may not be as strong as your natural teeth, so it’s important to avoid using it to bite down on hard items – this is especially true if you have a porcelain crown. Otherwise, you will clean your crown in the same way you would your normal teeth. This means brushing carefully twice per day, and flossing around the crown to remove any food debris. You will also need to maintain regular dental visits, during which we will cast an expert eye over the crown to ensure it’s still in good condition.

How long should my crown last?

Although there is no guarantee, with proper care, your dental crown should last many years. Regular dental check-ups with your High Street Dental Dentist will help to prolong the life of your crown as any dental issues can be identified and addressed early. Our team of oral health experts is ready to talk you through all the steps of your crown, so you know exactly what to expect. Call us today on (03) 9852 1717.
