IMPLANTS

If you are self-conscious about missing teeth or wearing dentures, then dental implants may be an option for you. Dental implants are the ‘gold standard’ – the next best thing to your own natural teeth in function and appearance. They help restore the ability to chew food and fill out a face that could otherwise look sunken because of missing teeth. Unlike dentures, implants are not removed for overnight soaking and cleaning. No adhesives are needed.

Dental implants can range from a single tooth implant to a complete upper and lower arch replacement called all-on-4. All implants have three main components: a titanium screw fixture that goes into the bone, an abutment (a piece of metal attached to the screw which sits above the gumline), and a crown (which is fixed on top of the abutment) that is either all ceramic or porcelain fused to precious metal.

At our clinic, our dental implants are the new standard in tooth replacement. It is our goal to help all of our patients achieve a healthy, functional smile that feels and functions like natural teeth.

What type of implant is right for me?

> Single tooth implants – Ideal if you are missing one tooth

These are comprised of a titanium post and custom-made implant crown restoration. Each implant tooth is designed to replace your single missing tooth and will mimic the structure and function of your previous natural tooth. Procedures like bone and gum grafting may be required and we will guide you through these procedures if needed. You can brush, floss and eat as normal. The colour of the implant crown will be blended in beautifully to match your surrounding natural teeth.

> Implant supported bridge – Ideal if you are two or more teeth

If you’re missing several teeth, then a fixed implant-supported bridge will provide you with a long-term solution that looks and feels just like your very own. Unlike traditional dentures, which usually compromise neighbouring teeth, tend to be loose, and cause your gums to recede, a dental implant bridge is more comfortable while providing better stability and function. Enjoy the benefits of being able to eat freely, speak clearly, and smile without the fear of your teeth falling out.

> Implant supported denture – ideal if you are missing several teeth in a row

If you no longer have any of your natural teeth or have had enough of dealing with loose dentures, dental implants offer you a permanent and hassle-free solution. Also known as all-on-4, is a dental procedure that involves placing a complete set of teeth onto 4 to 6 dental implants that look and feel just like natural teeth. They are more comfortable and secure than traditional dentures, and work just like normal teeth, improving your ability to bite, chew, and talk. Implant-supported dentures can last a lifetime with proper oral care and hygiene.

Are implants painful?

The implant process requires a few visits to our practice. We’ll always use an anaesthetic to make sure you’re comfortable during your care with us. An implant should not be painful during your visits or after it has been placed. If you’re finding pain associated with it after it’s been inserted in your mouth, please book a visit with us.

How long do dental implants last?

The great thing about dental implants is that with proper care, they can last for years—in fact, some may even last for the rest of your life. The average lifespan of an implant can be greater than 25 years, which is great news!

How should I care for my implants?

You should care for your implant just as you would your natural teeth—that means brushing and flossing daily and keeping the gums clean and healthy. If you notice any problems or pain around your implant, we ask that you contact us straightaway so that we can address any issues.

Am I a suitable candidate?

When you visit us, we will examine your mouth and needs thoroughly and let you know if you’re a candidate for an implant. A good candidate should have adequate bone structure remaining in the jaw to hold the implant in place, healthy gums and be a non-smoker.
